My name is Nikita Akula, and I am an Indian-American ✧ illustrator ✧ designer ✧ storyteller ✧
I am the community committee director for Blk + Brwn Book Designers and the summer '25 literacy design intern at Amplify Education.
(former design intern at Barefoot Books summer '24).
Raised in Exton, Pennsylvania, I am currently based in Baltimore, Maryland.
I graduate with a BFA in illustration and a minor in book arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art as of May 2025.
Through poetic lyricism and whimsy, I strive to uncover the magic in the ordinary. Blending mixed-media painting and drawing techniques,
I use traditional textures to add depth and accompany vibrant color choices. My mission as an artist is to spark self-reflection and empower young minds by weaving narratives that explore themes of community, identity, and imagination. I invite all viewers to reconnect with their inner child, cultivating wonder, discovery, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
When I decide to take a break from creating, you can find me reading a good book, dancing my heart out, being silly with my friends or photosynthesizing in the sun. 𖤓°⋆.ೃ࿔*:･
